Women across Lagos, Abuja, Jos, and Port Harcourt have joined a nationwide health walk organised by Meno Haven to mark World Menopause Day, calling for greater awareness, open dialogue, and community support for women undergoing menopause — a natural transition affecting over 20 million Nigerian women.
Themed “Steps That Break the Silence,” the event featured a morning fitness session, health talks, and wellness checks aimed at dismantling stigma, promoting lifestyle medicine, and fostering empathy for women navigating this critical life stage.
According to Meno Haven, millions of Nigerian women experience menopausal symptoms but remain silent due to cultural misconceptions, stigma, and lack of accurate information.
The group hopes its awareness campaigns will normalize menopause conversations and empower women to seek support and care.
Founder of Meno Haven, Adeyinka Aderoju, said the initiative was born out of her personal struggles with severe menopausal symptoms such as insomnia, panic attacks, and heart palpitations — experiences that inspired her to create a safe, supportive space for women.
“I didn’t have anyone to tell me what I was going through,” Aderoju shared. “Education and knowledge are powerful. When you’re informed, you’re in control. Meno Haven is a sisterhood — you’re not alone.”
Another member, Ayeni Eunice Debola, emphasized the need for education, noting that many women mistake menopause symptoms for illness or spiritual issues due to ignorance.
For Mrs. Iyabo Oloruntoba, adopting healthy habits and learning about menopause helped her manage hot flushes, body aches, and insomnia.
“Regular walks, exercises, and self-education changed my experience,” she said.
Through its outreach, Meno Haven continues to champion open conversations and compassionate care — turning menopause from a silent struggle into a shared journey of strength and understanding.
